17-Year-Old Rape Victim Bites Off Rapist’s Tongue In An Attempt To Kiss Her

Smart girl if you ask me!

The South African Police Service (SAPS), has said that a rape suspect, whose tongue was bitten off by the victim would appear in court when discharged from hospital.

SAPS spokesman, Lt. Col. Leonard Hlathi, told newsmen in Johannesburg on Tuesday that a teenager bit off a man's tongue while she was being raped.

"The 17-year-old girl was held up by an armed man and his accomplice, and dragged into a bush on Monday. The man with the gun told his partner to get alcohol and some friends, to gang rape the girl.

"He then forcefully undressed her and began to rape her.

"In the process, the suspect tried to kiss the victim, but she bit off his tongue and ran to a nearby house for help," he said.

He said the Police were alerted and they tracked down the man and arrested him.

"The man is being kept under police guard in hospital, and is expected to appear in court when discharged."

He also said the Police was looking for another man whose finger and tongue were bitten off by a woman he raped last Friday.

"The woman was hitch-hiking to Carolina on Friday, when the man gave her a lift around 6p.m.

"The man stopped the car near Mooiplaas farm and hit the woman with a soft drink bottle several times on the upper body; he then dragged the woman to the bushes and raped her.

"While raping the woman, the man tried to kiss her but she bit off half of his tongue, forcing him to jump away in pain."

Hlathi said the suspect tried to get hold of the woman again, " She then bit off the little finger of his right hand and ran away, leaving the two body parts at the scene.

"It seemed the man fled with his finger and piece of the tongue, because police did not find them at the scene. We are appealing to members of the public to help us arrest him".

He said the woman was receiving treatment in a hospital.

"The suspect was still at large. But a case of rape had been opened for investigation."

How OPC Members Killed An Etisalat Employee, Chukwuma Eze Over N10

The Late Etisalat Staff

This is so tragic and depicts how people have little or no regard for human lives.

A suspected member of the Odua Peoples Congress known by the pseudonym "Ultimate" on Monday allegedly killed an employee of Etisalat, Chukwuma Eze, in the Ejigbo area of Lagos State during an argument over N10 toll.
PUNCH Metro learnt that N10 toll was collected by the OPC members at a footbridge that links Ejigbo with Ajao Estate.

It was gathered that the deceased told the collectors that he had only N1, 000 denominations with him and offered it to one of the collectors who asked him to come back for his balance.

Eze was said to have agreed but was shocked when on his return a female member of the group insisted that the deceased did not give N1,000 to the collectors.

The telecoms employee was said to have been angered by the denial resulting in a fight between him and the female member of the group.

Sensing that the female member of the group could not match Eze's strength, "Ultimate," was said to have brought out an object suspected to be charm and hit the telecoms employee with it on the chest.

Eze, who is to marry in April, reportedly slumped and died on the spot.

It was learnt that immediately words filtered in that Eze had died, his kinsmen in the area carried out a reprisal and attacked some members of the OPC found at the footbridge.

A source told PUNCH Metro that in the ensuing pandemonium, a member of the OPC was also killed, while some motorcycles and a generator belonging to members of the group were vandalised.

The spokesperson for the state police command, Mr. Joseph Jaiyeoba, who spoke to our correspondent on the telephone confirmed the incident but said facts about the incident were still sketchy.

He  said, "One Chukwuma Eze was allegedly killed by some people collecting money at a footbridge but we cannot say for sure if the collectors are members of the OPC or the local government revenue collectors.

"The incident caused a stir as some friends of the deceased confronted and fought with the suspects.

"The details of what exactly transpired are still sketchy because the incident occurred at night but another corpse, identified as one Sumonu, was also found at Ajao Estate later. We (Police) do not know if his death is related to Eze's killing."

Obasanjo also appreciated members of the church, a spacious and fully air-conditioned facility within the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library complex.

28-Year-Old Wife Arraign In Court For Pouring Faeces On Husband's Mistress

For one second just imagine you were in te same room with all this craziness of shit pouring....what will be your first reaction?

The Police in Akure, Tuesday, arraigned a 28-year-old woman, Folashade Babatunde before an Akure Senior Magistrate's Court for allegedly pouring faeces on a female banker.
The accused, a trader and Higher National Diploma student at Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, Owo in Ondo State was docked before Mrs Rabi Abdulahi on a two-count charge of act likely to cause breach of the peace and assault.

Babatunde was accused of pouring faeces on one Agnes Olasehinde, a 27-year-old banker with the First Bank Plc, Alagbaka branch, Akure.
The offence, according to the Police Prosecutor, ASP Ayodele Atandeyi, was allegedly committed on February 24, about 12.30 p.m. at the First Bank Plc, Alagbaka branch, Akure.
She was accused of conducting herself in a manner likely to cause breach of the peace by bringing into the banking hall a can containing faeces.
This, the police said constituted an offence contrary to and punishable under section 249 of the Criminal Code Cap 37 Vol. I laws of Ondo State 2006.
Babatunde was also accused of assaulting Olasehinde by pouring faeces on her body, contrary to and punishable under Section 351 of the Criminal Code Cap 37 Vol. I laws of Ondo State 2006.
The accused person who elected summary trial at the court pleaded not guilty to the two charges when they were read to her in English language.
But in her statement to the police, the accused, who gave her address as No. 47, Ekusi Street, Owo, admitted that she poured the faces on Olasehinde because she was going out with her husband.
Atandeyi informed the court that he had two witnesses to call to prove the case against the accused person and asked for an adjournment to enable him study the case file.
The Counsel to the accused person, Mr Christopher Titiloye, did not object to the adjournment sought by the prosecutor, but urged the court to admit his client to bail pending the final determination of the matter.
In her ruling, the magistrate granted bail to the accused person in the sum of N100,000 and two sureties in like sum, who must reside within the jurisdiction of the court.
The sureties, the court ruled must swear to affidavit of means and must be property owners in the jurisdiction of the court.
Abdulahi adjourned the matter to March 27, for hearing."

14-Year-Old Boy Shoots His Mum At Least 10 Times As She Slept

I really don't know what to make of this sad story.

A 14-year-old boy, Joshua Smith, in the early hours of Monday morning, shot his mother, 36 year old Tamiko Robinson, at least ten times as she slept on the couch, his uncle told reporters after the teenager was arrested.

The teen, from east Detroit, was said to be angry that his mother had tried to keep him off the streets and away from a gang.

Smith's uncle LeShaun Roberts, told Fox Detroit News the teen had wanted to 'hang with the big boys' - gang members in their twenties - but when his mother said no he ran away to relatives. But Robinson, a dialysis patient, who was battling lupus, went after her son and insisted he came home, angering the youngster.

According to the uncle, Joshua broke into his step dad's room, got a twelve gauge and brutally murdered his mother while she slept on the couch in their home.

Joshua's five-year-old sister and step dad, were in the home at the time and were forced to jump out of a low window to escape the gunfire.

Smith was arrested soon after the shooting. He had reportedly been driving around in his mother's car.

Grammy-Award-Winning Singer, Erykah Badu Explains Why She Was Banned In Malaysia

Grammy-award-winning singer Erykah Badu is the latest to test taste limits in Malaysia, as the R&B musician's concert – scheduled for this Wednesday evening – was banned after a photo published in a local newspaper showed the Arabic word for Allah painted on her body.

At a press conference held on Wednesday afternoon, both the singer and her concert promoters confirmed the ban and the concert's cancellation, promising refunds to disappointed fans.

"Because of this one image we don't get to be together," said Ms. Badu, speaking at the press conference in Kuala Lumpur, where she had been for the past few days. "It is sad because we traveled a long way to do it."

The Malaysian government has labeled pictures showing Ms. Badu's body art, which included the Arabic word for Allah, an "insult" to Islam, the dominant religion in the country. Permanent tattoos are considered "haram," or forbidden, according to some interpretations of the Qu'ran, and using the word "Allah" casually or in vain is deemed disrespectful and offensive to many Muslims.

Ms. Badu said at the press conference the image was not a permanent tattoo, and none of the offending material remains on her body. The singer's body art was part of a photoshoot, in which she was depicted to resemble a film character, and does not have any permanent tattoos on her body.

Police Discovers Decomposed Corpses Of Mother And Son In Their Apartment In Lagos After 2 Years

Neighbours claim they had not seen the occupants of the apartment since 2010

Police officers attached to the Homicide Department at Panti, Yaba, Lagos have discovered two decomposing corpses in an apartment.

The corpses were found in a three-bedroom apartment at 18, Aina Road Agiliti Mile 12 area of the state last weekend.

The police officers, with a team of pathologists from the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH) Ikeja, made the shocking discovery, following reports from the real estate agent in charge of the house that neighbours had not seen the occupants of the apartment since 2010.

The decomposed corpses were later identified as a  woman known as Emma Johnson and her 27-year-old son Papa Johnson.

Five persons, including neighbours, have been arrested in connection with the incident.

Daily Times gathered that the woman's corpse was found laying face up on a dusty sofa with a cross in her left hand. She was easily identified as the hair on her head had not all decomposed.

The son's remains however were skeletons found at the extreme of the room close to where a stainless pot of palm oil inside was placed on a rusty stove.

The room also had cooking utensils, rotten tubers of yam and clothes scattered all over the floor, with dust and cobwebs all over the place.

A dusty photo album of the woman and her family was also seen on the wall adjacent were her decomposed corpse was.

It was gathered that the team of pathologists  led by professor John Fafunwa were shocked at the sight of the decomposed corpses which they, with the assistance of the police, recovered for autopsy.

The deceased persons had occupied a three-bedroom flat in the six block of flats since 2006 with other neighbours.

The real estate agent in charge of the house told police officers that the last time he saw the woman was in 2010 when he came to issue her a notice to remind her that her rent was due.

The landlord, who was identified as one Yemidale Kayoden is said to be outside the country.

Meanwhile, the police have arrested the agent and the four other occupants of the other blocks of flats to get their side of the case which is presumed to be a murder case.

"How can they say  they do not know anything about these corpses? These are people they have not seen since 2010 and they did not bother to find out. Also what about the offensive smell that would have emanated from the decomposed bodies? There are lot of questions that need answers and we will get to the root of the mysterious deaths," a police officer who requested anonymity said.

It was gathered that the agent was the first person to see the corpses, after he got a court order to forcefully evict the tenant.

Can This Happen In Nigeria?

The fear of God or natural inclination to do good is not mainly attributable to a particular religion. It can be seen as the natural or inherent composition of man to be our neighbours' keeper.

In medieval time actions of every man were based on conscience. Until various religions were introduced with each one trying or pretending to outdo the other on ground of piety .

In Nigeria, a country so berated for corrupt leaders and religious men, one wonders if the fear of God was ever felt here. I remember my father, when I was young, advising me not to play with some people because they were known to have stolen something from somebody. While it's true that we still have good people in Nigeria, the bad ones seem to overwhelmed the good ones.

Over times we find out that the need to amass un needed wealth or, is it greed of man among these 'religionist' had sort of reduced man to conscienceless being thereby casting aspersions on the ability of man to be able to do what is good at all time.

However, among the lots of men who pretend piety or religion zealous, there are some humble ones who though, they may not be rich, still have the heart of an angel. These kind of people are not particularly religionist.

For example Shawn Wyckoff, found a wallet, as small as that, he took all out to find the owner.

You may wonder the importance attached to a mere wallet! Wait a minute, the wallet was misplaced 35 years ago by Gean Brown Jr. while installing pipes in the attic of a Kansas home around 1976-77, he thought it was gone forever.

But more than 35 years later, Brown's wallet has been returned to him, KCTV5.com reports.

Former Governor James Onanefe Ibori Of Delta State Pleads GUILTY At UK Trial....He May Get 10 Years

The embattled and deserted former Governor of Delta State, James Onanefe Ibori, whose wife and girlfriend are already cooling off in their respective jail cells today entered a guilty plea at his money laundering trial at a Southwark Crown Court in London, the UK.

According to Sahara Reporters:
Mr. Ibori's admission of guilt closed the chapter on arguably the most dramatic judicial and political saga involving a Nigerian public official in recent years.

Today's development came as a stunning finale to one of the most phenomenal money laundering and fraud cases spanning seven years of an intensive manhunt. That drama ended as the once powerful former governor, who loved to be flattered with his flamboyant nickname of Odidigborigbo of Africa, avoided an exhaustive and revealing trial by deciding to admit to his massive money laundering activities during his two-term run as governor.

A source with the Crown Prosecution Services in the UK told SaharaReporters that, with today's plea, Mr. Ibori faces up to 10 years in a UK prison at his sentencing. The former governor will be sentenced after the completion of the trial of his accomplice and financial advisor, Elias Preko, a Ghanaian national. Mr. Ibori, a graduate of the University of Benin, today's admission of guilt ends a full circle of a life of crime that began with petty theft in the early 1990s when he lived as a poor immigrant in London and developed into a full-fledged, big-time career in money laundering and other complex financial crimes during his governorship of one of Nigeria's richest oil-producing states.

Diplomatic sources as well as international crime investigators believe that Mr. Ibori stole close to $3 billion from the coffers of Delta State. Over the years, SaharaReporters chronicled Mr. Ibori's life in crime, beginning with our exposure of the details of the former governor's early small-time crimes in the early 1990s when he and his then girlfriend and future wife, Theresa Nkoyo, began stealing building materials at a Wikes shop in London where Theresa worked. A UK court tried and fined him for burglary and possession of stolen credit cards.

Ibori returned to Nigeria during the regime of dreaded dictator Sani Abacha. In Nigeria, Mr. Ibori took up his life of crime, spearheading the looting a building construction site in Abuja. Then, after craftily changing his date of birth, Mr. Ibori was recruited by Mr. Abacha's chief security officer, Al Mustapha, whose involvement in the regime's network of criminal activities recently earned him a death sentence for the assassination of Kudirat Abiola, wife of then president-elect M.K.O. Abiola. Security sources told SaharaReporters that Mr. Ibori became a deadly member of Mr. Abacha's extensive machinery of repression that included killer squads that went after leading opponents of the regime. Mr. Ibori is believed to have led the group of assassins that killed Alfred Rewane, a prominent businessman and financier of pro-democracy groups opposed to Mr. Abacha.

As Nigeria returned to some form of democracy in the post-Abacha era, Mr. Ibori was able to parlay the monumental wealth he accumulated from the dictator's regime into remaking himself as a political star in the corrupt conclave of Nigerian politics, pitching his tent with the most corrupt of all the parties, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). Successfully covering up his conviction for stealing building materials in Abuja as well as his petty crime convictions in the UK, Mr. Ibori sought and won the mandate of the PDP as the party's governorship candidate in 1999.

Once elected as governor of one of Nigeria's richest states in the oil-producing Niger Delta region, Mr. Ibori began looting the treasury of the state with the aid of his wife, a mistress, his younger sister, well-heeled lawyers in London, and his cousin, Emmanuel Uduaghan, who was crowned gubernatorial successor before Ibori ran out of luck. By the time Ibori was done with the treasury of Delta State, he had become one of the richest Nigerians, owning an airline company, using criminal schemes to buy over the national fertilizer company, acquiring mansions in different parts of Nigeria as well as choice real estate in London, the United Arab Emirate, and the U.S.

Also, by the end of his reign as governor, Mr. Ibori was so politically powerful and financially rich that he almost singlehandedly financed the presidential campaign of deceased Nigerian ruler Umaru Yar'adua, helping to spearhead the rigging that swept the man into the Nigerian presidency.

A grateful Yar'adua shielded Mr. Ibori from any serious prosecution for corruption. On his part, Mr. Ibori had used massive cash gifts to top members of Nigeria's judiciary, including Supreme Court justices Niki Tobi, Alfa Belgore and Aloysius Katsina-Alu, to cultivate an extremely cozy relationship with critical players in the nation's judiciary. With many senior judges on his payroll, he found it easy to manipulate the judiciary. When opposition opponents accused him of being convicted for the theft of building materials, Mr. Ibori easily slipped away. Despite glaring evidence that he was involved in business scams, corruption and stealing, Nigerian judges, from the magistrate level all the way to the Supreme Court, thwarted the course of justice and let Ibori walk free. Several judges ruled that he was not the same James Onanefe Ibori named in the conviction.

Famously known as the "Sheikh," Mr. Ibori became the darling of hustlers and a man that seemed larger than life, inspiring fear in many of his critics in Delta State. Many politicians and Nigerians regarded Ibori as possessing power over life and death. He had bankers at his beck and call and he had his own newspaper. As governor, he was reputed to have a killer squad to snuff life out of his opponents. He famously summoned former Inspector General of Police Mike Okiro to his country home. On one occasion, during his detention on money laundering charges, former IG Okiro sent the only functioning police helicopter to ferry him from Kaduna Prison to Abuja because he complained of headache.

A Nigerian police officer named Nuhu Ribadu, who served as chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), was to become Ibori's major nemesis. In 2005, Mr. Ribadu began coordinating a series of local and international investigations against Mr. Ibori. The investigation was tagged "Operation Tureen."
The investigators looked at several transactions undertaken by Mr. Ibori using a web of sophisticated methods and schemes that involved banks, bureaus de change, multinational corporations as well as a U.S.-based equity firm to launder funds looted from Delta State. The Proceeds of Crime Unit at the London Metropolitan Police played a critical role in the extensive investigation which culminated in an asset freeze order that targeted some $35 million traced to Mr. Ibori. The asset freeze order revealed that Mr. Ibori was about to take delivery of a Bombardier jet from Canada. The delivery had been delayed only because Mr. Ibori demanded that an I-Pod jack be installed on each seat on the plane.

The asset freeze order suffered a temporary setback when Mr. Ibori deployed a team of high-powered lawyers in London to roll it back. Even so, a determined team of UK police officers and lawyers from the Crown Prosecution Services led by Sasha Walsh, would not relent. Instead, they widened their dragnet to take down Mr. Ibori's sister, Christine Ibie-Ibori, his girlfriend, Udoamaka Okoronkwo (nee Onuigbo), his wife Theresa Nkoyo-Ibori, and one of his London-based lawyers, Bhadresh Gohil

Despite the crumbling of his money laundering machinery in the UK, Mr. Ibori's was waxing politically stronger in Nigeria. In one demonstration of his invincibility in Nigeria, he insisted that former President Yar'adua remove Mr. Ribadu from chairmanship of the EFCC and also dismantle the top leadership of the anti-corruption agency. Subjected to constant humiliation after his removal from the EFCC, Mr. Ribadu was ultimately hounded into exile. With the consent of an ailing President Yar'adua, Mr. Ibori also installed Farida Waziri as head of the EFCC. He also had the then attorney general of the federal, Michael Aondoakaa, to do his bidding. SaharaReporters exposed the fact that Mr. Aondoakaa wrote several letters to Mr. Ibori's defense team in London claiming that the Nigerian government had found no evidence of corruption on the part of the former governor. Mr. Aondoakaa also sought to prohibit U.K. prosecutors from using any evidence provided by Mr. Ribadu's EFCC in the prosecution of Mr. Ibori's associates undergoing money laundering trials in London.

In another sign of his untouchable status in Nigeria, Mr. Ibori engineered to have his money laundering trial transferred to the Delta State capital of Asaba in a hastily assembled, brand new federal high court. The court sat in a house bought from one of the former governor's political associates. Mr. Ibori was allowed to choose Justice Marcel Awokulehin, a notoriously corrupt judge, to preside over his charade of a trial. He also chose his prosecutor, a man who in court made a habit of agreeing with any motion that Mr. Ibori's defense lawyers made. In an outcome that SaharaReporters predicted, the 170 counts of money laundering in Nigeria were made to collapse, with Justice Awokulehin, who received a bribe of $5 million, proclaiming Mr. Ibori's innocence.

With questions still cast over Mr. Ibori's trial in Nigeria, his alma mater, the University of Benin, hastily organized a founder's day lecture to project him as a hero. The former governor also made a round of the Nigeria media to insist on his innocence and to deny that he ever offered Mr. Ribadu a bribe of $15 million in order to stave off prosecution.

As soon as Yar'adua died in 2010, the political calculation changed. The tide turned against Mr. Ibori as then acting President Goodluck Jonathan ramped up political pressure against Mr. Ibori who, as one of the closest confidants of the late ruler, had often ridiculed Mr. Jonathan and prevented him from becoming acting president even as it was clear that Mr. Yar'adua was incapacitated in a Saudi hospital.

To thwart a feeble attempt made to re-arrest him, Mr. Ibori fled to Dubai. However, his run was shortlived when an international dragnet by the UK police caught up with him. UK authorities filed an extradition request in Dubai to snag up the fugitive former governor, wanted in the UK to answer to the use of financial institutions in that country to engage in money laundering.

Mr. Ibori's relentless fight in a Dubai court to return to Nigeria instead failed. He was eventually flown to the UK in 2010 where he remained in custody till today's guilty plea. From his UK detention, Mr. Ibori had coordinated and launched a deceptive media campaign. Mr. Ibori's associates funded some Nigerian-owned blogs that alleged, among other things, that UK police investigators had accepted bribes from his associates; that the prosecution's case against him was weak; and even that the prosecution was on the verge of abandoning their case.

A source close to Mr. Ibori told SaharaReporters that the former governor's well-funded propaganda collapsed last week when his well-paid attorneys told him he had a bad case. Feeling utterly, Mr. Ibori came to terms with the fact that he could not maneuver his way out of the legal logjam as he was able to do in his fake Nigerian trial.

A UK-based lawyer told SaharaReporters that, in pleading guilty today, Mr. Ibori hoped to avoid receiving the maximum sentence for his crimes. Even so, the source suggested that the former governor should expect a sentence in the range of 10-12 years.

But that could be only the beginning of his troubles as the London Metropolitan police plan to go after his assets all over the world.

Odumegwu-Ojukwu To Be Buried As A Roman General In An American Gold Casket On 2nd March

The late Igbo leader, Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu-Ojukwu would be buried in an American gold mixed with bronze casket, Saturday Sun can authoritatively reveal. Ojukwu's widow, Bianca, who is in London to begin preparations for bringing back the corpse of the departed Biafran warlord told Saturday Sun that the make-up of the casket was to depict the simple nature of Ojukwu when he was alive.

She disclosed that the customised casket has the family crest and the family coat of arms.

Asked how Ojukwu wanted to be buried, Bianca said that besides making specific request that his body be taken to Aba, in Abia State, he did not as such set other standards, though he was in love with the Roman army.

"Therefore, I would want that he be laid out as a Roman General. You know he was in love with the army and had loved Roman Generals. Therefore, he would be laid out as a Roman General," she said.

Bianca said that she moved to London well ahead of burial committee members to enable her clear the customised casket.

Oscars 2012: Ryan Seacrest Bathed With Ashes On The Red Carpet (Photos)

One of the major highlights at the 2012 Oscars was when Sacha Baron Cohen pulled off yet another audacious publicity coup to promote his latest movie, titled: The Dictator.

Initially banned by the Academy from pulling such a stunt, bosses finally relented and allowed the British comedian to take to the carpet dressed as General Aladeen, who promptly tipped an urn  containing 'the ashes of Kim Jong II' over a furious Ryan Seacrest.

Cohen was quickly bundled away from the angry E! presenter in an unceremonious fashion.

But what he lacked in dignity he made up for in humour.

8 Nigerian Christians Arrested For Trying To Bomb A Rival Faction Of Their Own Church

The Nigeria police today arrested eight Nigerian Christians suspected of trying to blow up a rival faction of their own church, hours after an Islamist suicide bomber blew up a Nigerian church service.

The Police in Bauchi, a religiously mixed but predominantly Muslim city in northern Nigeria, said the suspects had been found with explosives and other weapons at the Evangelical Church of West Africa.

"Some people attempted to attack the ECWA Church. It was a rival group within the church ... this morning," police commissioner Ikechukwu Ayo Aduba said by telephone.

"When we got the report we sent our men who arrested about eight of them and seized the explosives."

The incident followed a church bombing by the Boko Haram Islamist sect in Jos that killed at least two people and wounded 38, one of several attacks on churches by the sect since Christmas day.

Security officials say one of the major worries with Boko Haram, whose insurgency is plaguing much of northern Nigeria, is that criminal gangs or rival political groups can use it as a cover to settle scores or carry out violence they know is likely to be blamed on the sect.

Nelson Mandela Well After Stomach Ailment, Says South Africa’s Minister

Nelson Mandela, who was admitted into hospital this weekend for abdominal pain, underwent laparoscopy and is doing "fine," South Africa's Defence Minister, Lindiwe Sisulu said Sunday.

"He had investigative laparoscopy," a procedure in which the abdominal area is probed by tiny cameras inserted through small incisions, Sisulu told a press conference. "He's fine and he is recovering from anaesthetic and he is as fine as can be at his age. He is fine and handsome."

The former South African leader, 93, loved by many people in the world checked into a yet to be identified hospital yesterday, prompting anxiety and speculations about the state of health of his health.

The hospital stay was for a planned "diagnostic procedure" to investigate an abdominal complaint, President Jacob Zuma said, without specifying the exact ailment.

"Madiba is fine and fully conscious and the doctors are satisfied with his condition, which they say is consistent with his age," said Zuma, using Mandela's nickname."He is receiving good medical care and is expected to be discharged from hospital either tomorrow or Monday.

The Nobel Peace Prize laureate last major public appearance was in July 2010.

"He was in good health before admission in hospital but doctors felt the complaint needed a thorough investigation. He underwent a diagnostic procedure as part of his ongoing medical management," Zuma said.

"We are happy that he is not in any danger and thank the doctors for their hard work and professionalism."Family and officials have refused to say where he is being treated with appeals for his privacy.Journalists trying to track the statesman's location have been barred entry to hospitals, with one photographer forced to delete pictures of a Pretoria military hospital.

Former Governor Of Delta State, James Ibori Caves-In To Plea Bargain

Former governor of Delta State, James Ibori, may have agreed to a plea bargain deal with the London Metropolitan Police (MET). In fact, barring any other last-minute hurdles, the deal may be signed as early as this week.

Sources conversant with the deal told Sunday Vanguard that the signal for the deal was first sighted when the London MET dropped its corruption charges against Ibori. Rather than rejoice over the development, a shocked Ibori was made to understand that the new case against him would dwell on money laundering.

One of the sources said: "Whereas it was decided that the corruption charges were dropped because proving the case was becoming challenging, resorting to money laundering provides an easier case to prosecute because a defendant could be found guilty once a  veritable inference could be made".

Unconfirmed reports late yesterday suggested that most of the "finer details of the deal had already been agreed upon by both the prosecuting counsel and Ibori's lawyers".

Ibori, Sunday Vanguard learnt, having moved from Nigeria to Dubai in the United Arab Emirates, UAE, before his extradition to London for trial, was said to "be showing signs of fatigue as the case appeared to have really dealt him a heavy psychological blow as well as punched a hole in his finances".

Whereas the case was said to have cost the British authorities huge sums of money as a result of the global investigations involved in attempting to prove the case, sources said they were, nonetheless, prepared to convict Ibori on money laundering charges. "It was this new development that compelled Ibori's lawyers to prevail on him to accept the plea bargain deal.

"Initially, he objected but when confronted with the full implications of going ahead with the case, the resources the British authorities would have to deploy again and the man hours, he faced a more damaging penalty should he be found guilty.  He was also told that since the corruption charges had been dropped, going for a plea bargain on money laundering was less opprobrious," a source said.

"It was this line of argument from his lawyers that eventually made him to cave-in to the deal".

Suicide Bomber Attacks Church In Jos, Killing 3 Persons

Suicide Bomber Attacks Church In Jos, Killing 3 Persons

This is the picture of the dead Suicide car bomber after the attack

A suicide bomber drove an explosives packed car into a church in the volatile central city of Jos on Sunday and killed three people, church leaders told AFP.

The attack is the latest in a country grappling with what have become almost daily assaults, most of them blamed on the Islamist sect Boko Haram.

Church of Christ in Nigeria (COCIN) workers said a car forced its way through the gate during an early morning service.

"We were in the church during the time of worship and a suicide bomber forced himself into through the gate, into the church and the bomb exploded," John Haruna, the reverend of the Church of Christ in Nigeria (COCIN), told AFP.
Another church member who is also an activist with the Christian human rights organisation Stefanos Foundation gave a similar account.

"It was suicide bomber, he drove his car into the church, approaching the pulpit and it exploded. Three members of the church died and 10 are injured," Mark Lipdo, said.

He said pieces of human flesh littered the church premises.

Boko Haram has been blamed for a wave of increasingly bloody gun and bomb attacks in several parts of Africa's most populous country in recent months, mostly in the Muslim-dominated north.
